The company looks back on a history existing more than 120 years; the company has been active under the Wipf name for 90 years. With some 540 employees it is today active at two sites.
Highly dense packaging films are developed and produced with Wipf in Volketswil in the area of flexible packaging. They are mainly used in the foods and pharma industries but also in non-food areas such as construction, agro or household chemistry. ![]()
History of Elco AG

Elco AG, with a production capacity of up to nine million envelopes and direct mail products per day one of the most important companies in the area of envelopes & direct marketing, looks back on a long and varied past.
1891 Establishment of Frey, Wiederkehr & Co. in Gontenschwil by the two pioneers Samuel Frey and Hermann Wiederkehr. The first products which are produced are paper bags.
1952 Establishment of Seetal Papier AG
1969 Frey, Wiederkehr & Co. AG and Schaller & Co. AG merge to become Schaller Frewi AG with production located in Brugg.
1974 Launch of the first rotary envelope press and start of production of the first rotary offset press.
1977 Entry into mailer production and IT-controlled inkjet addressing.
1989 Launch of the format-variable rotary offset press for high quality rotary printing of mailers, photo bags and advertisement envelopes.
1991 Moving in to new factory building of Schaller Frewi AG in Brugg and 100-year jubilee. In the same year the Wipf Group incorporates Paka Verpackungen GmbH in Marchtrenk (Austria).
1994 Merger of Seetal Papier AG and Schaller Frewi AG to Seetal Schaller AG with central envelope production at the new plant in Brugg.
2005/06 Seetal Schaller AG invests in the future and launches the operation of a tray erector, an envelope machine with automatic nesting and a fully automatic palletiser.
2007 Seetal Schaller AG and Elco Papier AG merge to Elco AG at the Brugg site. The successful ELCO brand is extended and the product range is expanded by stationery Ordo folders, by school notebooks and writing and notepads.
2020 View into the future
Many things can be digitalised and beamed. But hardly the special feeling when opening a proper letter. Or 3D objects you want to send. We also dare predict that the requirements to quality will continue to increase. And here Seetal Elco will be the right address in the future too!
